County Building.
During the month of October 23 building permits for work to the value of £7287 had been issued, reported the engineer, Mr. W. H. Fraser, to yesterday's meeting- of the Horowhenua County Council. For the same period last year the value of building work had ( amounted to £62,111. Tenders had been invited for the erection of council cottages at Opiki and Koputaroa, he added. A New One. "This is a new one on us and I do* not know where we • come into it," observed the Horowhenua County Council's chairman, Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, when a letter was received at its monthly meeting yesterday from a firm of solicitors inviting the council's comment on the issuing of a wholesaler's liquor licence. "We are interested in roads and bridges," he added. "This, I tliink, is a matter for the Licensing Committee and we are not in a position to give any views." The council decided to take no action.
