Labour Rally In Unusual Setting

The beautiful and spacious - grounds surrounding the home of: Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Webster, of Otaki , Railway, were, the scene ,of a Labour raLy on Sunday afternoon, when a Maori concert was presented to an attendance probably numbering betweem 200 and 300. The Otaki Brass Band rendered a pleasing programme prior to the commencement of the concert and, following the rendering ofvthe National Anthem by the- band, Mr. Webster welcomed all with a special welcome to the Hon. F. Hackett, and Mr. and Mrs. D. Capstick and family, the latter being presented to the large audience. ' Mr. Capstick acknowledged the welcome and called for applause for Mr. Webster for his fiiie gesture in making the occasion possible. A programme of variety items was then presented as follows: — Solo, "Home Little Maori Home," Bob Hakaraia and concert party; action songs, concert party of local Maori maidens and youths; instrumental and vocal solos, the Murray quartette; solo, Mr. Tom Gray; trio, Otaki Inkspots (Messrs P. and R. Rikihana and H. Johnson) ; humorous recitations, Messrs D. Rikihana and R. Carkeek; poi dance, concert party; duet, Messrs . Carkeek and D. Rikihana; solo, Bob Hakaraia; action song and haka, concert pariy; harmony, "Inkspots" and associates. All performers were generously applauded and the concluding artist was also loudly acclaimed. He was Wiremu Matene, of Wellington, whose impersonations of ,jJimniy Durante, were very clever and made a great hit. The happy gathering concluded with all joining in the popular number "Now Is The Hour," led by Mr. Matene. Master of ceremonies was Mr. R. Carkeek, with Messrs T. Henry, T. Gray and W. Matene as aceompanists.
