Two surprises in the seeond round of the Nevf Zealand women's golf charnpionships played at Otatara links, Invercargill on iSaturday were the elimination of one of the eight seeded players, Miss J. Duncan (Wanganui), aiid the def'ea^of the former. ehampion, Mrs. G. W. floilis (Titirangi). Miss V. Eleming (Christchureh) brought hbout the eclipse of the Wanganui player vvhose form over the tournament had not beenequal to her best, and Mrs. Hollis was beaten by the hard-hitting Otago wornun, Miss M. Elliott, who profited by approaehing and putting lapses of her opponent. The Golf vvas again of a good standard and the strong vvesterly proved to be a good test for the majority of the field. All live Australians who survived the first round won their matches, but two of the visitors played erratic golf, and Miss Percy no'tably had fo fight hard to beat Miss 0 'Sullivan (Hawera). Miss Clieney (Vietoria) made a magnificent recovery after being down at the turn against a former ehampion in Mrs. ftteel (Auckland).
