Mr. M. H. Oram's Sudden Illness
Although suffering considerable pain and discomfiture as a result of severe indisposition which he had experienced earlier in the day, the National candidate for Manawatu, Mr. M. H. Oram, M.P., kept an appointment with his Pohangina electors in the Pohangina Hall on Friday night. With the greatest difficulty Mr. Oram fulfilled his obligation to address the meeting and shortly after his re-
turn to Palmerston North was rushe'd into hospital suffering from an advanced case of acute appendicitis. An operation was performed on Saturday morning and Mr. Oram is progressing as well as can be expected. Mr. Oram's sudden illness ha>S' necessarily compelled an abandonment of at least some of his scheduled campaign addresses, but it is understood that arrangements are being made for outside speakers to visit the Manawatu electorate to keep faith with Mr. t.Oram's pledge to present the National Party's election platform to as many electors as possible. His Labour opponent, Mr._ Basil Rodgers, has very sportingly announced his intehtion to cancel his meetings until such 'time as Mr. Oram's campaign is resumed.
