POSITION MAY IMPROVE NEXT WEEK

AUCKLAND, Nov. 4. There is an acute shortage of potatoes in Auckland and for several days retailers have been unable to supply the demand. Following a light crop in the South Island which is the principal source of the Dominion's supply, even fhe importation of 3000 tons from Australia has been insuffieient to bridge the gap between the main crops. The position is expected to improve next weelt when supplies from Pukekohe are coming to hand. Then other Auckland provincial centres will contri bute followed by supplies from the southern parts of the North Island.
