Pouring Millions Into Public Works
AUCKLAND, Nqv. 3. It is estimated that fche sum oi' about £19,500,000 will be spent on major public works, excluding the new nietropohtan railway systein, now being undertaken or contemplated in the Auckland district, according to a statement issued by the Minister of Works (Mr Semple). This figure includes an amount to cover the eonstruction of the harbour bridge and the aecompanying apprOach roads. Public buildings are expected to cost more than £4,000,000; the eonstruction and improvement of highways together with bridges more tlian £7,000,000; railways more than £2,000,000;" new airport £3,000,000; and ■ hydro-electrie development £2,500,000.
