Cricket Matters Discussed By Executive

A meeting of the Horowhenua Cricket Association's executive was held this week. There were present: Messrs G. C. France (chairman), T. Roach, H. Rice, G. Andrews.and C, E. Barraud (secretary) . A letter from the Wellington Association suggested December 26 and 27 for tne match. at Levin betwee'n Horowhenua, and the Brabin Shield team. It was decided co agree, to these dates provided hotel accommodation could be arranged. The Manawatu Association wrote suggesting December 3 as the date for the Goldfinch and Cousins' Cup challenge ifiatch, "combining the Hawke Cup xtrial, at Levin. This was accepted, but the committee commented on the fact that the Manawatu Association was proving difficult to work with, having already declined sdveral alternative dates put forward by Horowhenua. The Rangitikei Association wrote v agreeing to play a B representative side at Levin on December 3. The question of the elassification of junior players was discussed at some length and it was resolved that in view of ». previous performances, I. Morton should be temporarily classified as a senior. The Otaki club requested that red and black be registered &s its official colours. This was agireed to. Cpnsideration was given to' an alteration ,in the points allotted in competition games: It was feft, however, that these could only b© altered at a general meeting of the association and the matter was held over for further discussion at a later date. The secretary advised that he had been in touch with Mr. M. P. Pengelly, of the Wellington Umpires' Association, who had intimated that during November he would be coming to Levin to lecture on umpiring, and show and discuss the coaching film which had been shown with great success at Levin last season. He hoped to be able to bring with him Mr. J. H. Phillipps, manager of the N.Z. team which recently fcoured England, and G. Rabone and F. Mooney, members of the team, Mr. Barraud said that if this could be arranged it would give cricket in the district considerable stimulus, and would be welcomed by playing members and non-playing enthusiasts.
