Demand For Health Stamps Exceeds Supply
The sale of health stamps in Levin during October of this year has set an all-time record for the first month. • Public response to the campaign has far exceeded the postal authorities' expectations, so much so that by the end of last . month ' all stamps had been sold and the prospect of f uf ther supplies was gloomy. The Dominion objective of £100,000 has now been reached, leaving only £9000 worth of stamps for sale in the remaining three months of the campaign. Levin's total saies over a period of five months last year amounted to £671. In one month this year they have amounte'd to £665. The quota was £341. This is a sharp • increase from the 1947 campaign, which realised only £270. The local postal authorities have been able to obtain a small extra quantity of stamps, but it is certain that the deman'd will exceed the supply. The Weraroa and Ohau Post .Offices report that they still have small > supplies of health stamps on hand. Levin has reason to feel proud of its efforf when it is realised that as a result of the £225 collected from health stamps saies in this town many children will receive the benefit of a stay in the health camp at Otaki.
