Sweet Spray Will Keep Sprinters Busy
(Special — From
NAPIER, Nov. 4." : . The Levin Racing Club has drawn particularly large fields for its spring meeting tomorrow, four of which divisions have had to be provided for. The N.Z. Cup Trial has attracted a good field of middle-distance performers but hardly conceals the prospective N.Z. Cup winner. Many of the horses running tomorrow are nominated for the N.Z. Cup meeting at Riccarton this month, and their form will be followed with interest as a guide for later in the month.
The Ndw Zealand Cup Trial field is a good one with a fair sprinkling of form to recommend. Recent racing should fit Imperial to show up tomorrow. Wild Note showed at Trentham by running fourth in the sprint on the last day that he was reaching his best form. Blue Seal will he suited by distance and condition. He is very fit and likes firm going. The same also applies to Leyma, who raced well but unluckily at Trentham. Avenger is improving and his turn cannot be far off. He is also an acceptor for Stratford. Tenor Royal raced well in the Rangitikei Cup and should be greatly benefited by the race. He is not without a prospect. Others with good lightweight chances are Merry Robin (if wetl , The Laird, who reads the best near the bottom of the weights, and Belle Anita. However, in Blue Seal and Leyma the public will have a solid pair on its side. The speedy Sweet Spray will keep the sprinters busy in the McDonald Memorial Handicap. She is right/back to her best form and looks an oulstanding prospect. Trentham form makes His Nibs one of Sweet Spray's most dangerous opponents. Other good prospects are Castlebrae, Deseado, Zealander, Air Belle, very fast over five, and Destination. All the hack , races have filled very well, and in the Champion Hack Handicap the club has a field which should turn on a contest well worth' seeing. Terrific and Statesman, two recent winners, will be making their last appearances in the hack grade, and each will be well backed. To cater for the large number of two year olds in training the club has put on a non-totallsator race for horses which have not run first, second or thbd. Horses expected to race prominently are: — 11.15 — Highweight Handicap (about li miles) — The Stormovik, Balcherrie,' Angell. 12.0-^Maiden Race (6 furlongs) — First division — Parker, Lady Viv. Second division — Hadfield, One S'tep. 12.45 — Weraroa Hack Handicap (7 furlongs) — First division — Statesman, Fighting Fox. Second division — Jolly Sailor, Conceal. 1.30 — N.Z. Cup Trial (about 1{ miles) — Blue Seal, Leyma, Avenger.1 2.15 — Mako Mako Hack (6 furlongs) — First division — Finola, Tharariche. Second division — Jolly Sailor, Jolly Robin. 3.0 — Champion Hack (about li miles ) — Terrific, Chief Officer, Flying Colours. 3.45 — McDonald Memorial (6 furlongs)— Sweet Spray, His Nibs, Castlebrae. 4.30 — Hokio Hack (5 furlongs) — First division — Bulos, Reflect.
