Mayor's Work For Sewerage Scheme Praised
(To tfie Editor) Sir, — It must be three years since the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, gave the undertaking at a meeting that if he was in office a sewerage scheme would be initiated within two years. Judging by the report in the issue of "The Chronicle" of November 1, it would appear that the Mayor has kept his word. Now, as ratepayers occasionally take the opportunity to level criticism, and alas, such is the imperfection of man, presume to award blame for sins real or imaginary, I suggest that this is an occasion when a meed of praise is due. This, therefore, is the object of this letter and I ask that' it be printed to give evidence of appreciation of the Mayor's decisive action in at least one quarter. That this appreciation is widespread is most probable. That it will be so regarded when the benefit of the scheme is experienced is most certain. Furthermore, that time is apparently not far distant.
Is the old saying "Handsome is as handsome does" applicable? I think it is, and to that feeling subscribe myself. Yours, etc!, HORACE E. HERRING. Levin, Nov. 3.
