DE-CONTROL DOES NOT GO FAR ENOUGH
DUNEDIN, Nov. 2. A snb-eommittee of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Assoeiation will meetthe Minister Qf Industries and Commerce (Mr Nordmeyer) at his convenienee to diseuss price eontrol. This decision was reaehed at the annual conference of the federation this morning when a letter from the Minister, stating that a number of commodities would be removed from price eontrol, was discussed. The acting-president (Mr D. V. Wilson), the seeretary (Mr D. I. MacDonald), and Mr J. II. Manning (Wellington) were appointed to the sub-com-mittee. Mr Wilson said that the federation
T-? appreeiated the faet that eertain ltems had been removed from price eontrol, but, on the other hand, it was disappointed that the Minister 's list of decontrolled items had not been more comprehensive. On Mr Wilson 's motion the Mini ister's letter was aeknowledged and the sub-eommittee'"was appointed. Rpealting to the motion, Mr 1. Matheson (Wellington) said that in its efforts to keep down the cost of basic items the Price Tribunal had depressed margins to manufacturers to such an extent that industries were unable to offer adequate incentives to employoes to produce goods, and the result of the eontrol was that, instead of costs being redueed, the supply of articles was reduced.
