Athletic And Cycling Season Commences
A large and enthusiastic crowd attended at the Levin Park Do- { main to witness the official opening of the Levin Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's 1949-50 season on Monday evening. Although track conditions were heavy, some good times were recorded an'd every event was warmly received by the onlookers. ' A grand. parade comprising the Caledonian Girls' Marching Team, and the Horowhenua Pipe and Municipal Bands marched from the school to the domain. During the evening an excellent display was given by the marching team supported by the pipe. band. ' The president of the club, Mr. W. Cribb, 'declared the season officially open and wished the athletes and cyclists the best of luck thrpughout the coming season. Continuing, the president extended a welcome to all visitors and asked them, as the proceeds of the evening were to be donated to the St. John Ambulance fund, to give generously to that worthy cause.
