, Copyrlght)
i ' Received Thursday, 10.15 a.m. ■ THE HA'GUE, Nov. 2. The plan for the establishment -of a Republrc of United States of Indonesia was accepted at The Hague today at the final plenary session of the round-table conferen.&e between the Dutch and indonesians, which has lasted for ten weeks. The sresolution passed today said that the United Nations Commission or some other United Nations agency would observe the implementation of the plan.
A leading delegate. -of th# Dutch delegation said that 'Communism would have little chance in the new Indonesian Republic. The successful outcome 'of the conference on Indonesia was greeted with general enthusiasm by diplomatie quarters in London, who considered that a statesmanlike and constructive solution had been found to one of the most obstinate of postwar problems. Observers were particularly glad that the decision to transfer the ■ sovereignty to the United States of Indonesia by the end of this year was not postponed through failure to decide now the status of New Guinea. It was feared that a further substantial delay -in agree - ment on the main assue — the constitution of the United States of Indonesia — might mean a relapse into military operations, as was the case just under.,, a year ago. There is a strong hope in London that the plan emerging from The Hague conference provides a formula for .long and fruitful co-
operation between Indonesia and the Netherlands on a pattern consistent both with Dutch interests an'd with the rising spirit of nationalism in Southeast Asia. At the United Nations headquarters at Lake 'Success, the successful conclusion of . The Hague conference was hailed by some United Nations delegates as partly a victory for the United Nations. Sir Benegal Rau, India's chlef delegate, said that his country was particularly pleased, as India had played a considerable part in bringing about the happy result. "We hope this is the beginning of a new era in Southeast Asia,"5 : he said. "It looks as if thel , Netherlands has nrofited from the ! example of Britain and begun al new approach in her relations with former colonies. It must also be a matter for' special gratiftcation for the United Nations and a happy augury for the future of the United Nations."
