Carnival Committee Meets To Plan Campaign
v The management committee of the combined St. John AmbulanceWaitarere Surf Club Queen Carnival Association, at a meeting held recently, decided that the carnival campaign would last over the period from December 17 to January 30,, 1950. A decision with regard to the number of candidates that should be allowed to compete could not be finalised and it was agreed to accept candidates from Levin, Otaki, Shannon, Foxton and any further areas that were deemed practicable. Another matter which arose was the question of boundaries. This was summarily deait with, but the meeting agreed that until such time as the delegates had surveyed the areas the matter be left in abeyance. With the aid of the Press, the committee. hoped that it would be able to arrange a general meeting of local sports' bodies and country residents. It was hoped that this meeting would resuit in the public having a better understanding of the carnival's aims. It would also foster interest for the project. The committee decided to ask the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, to preside at the meeting. The queen carnival will be operated on the basis of one vote per shilling donated. The election o'f officers resulted as follows: — Chairman: Mr. J. Allen; vice- chairman: Mr. W. J. Barrat; secretaries: Messrs J. Corbishley and I. Doyie; publicity committee: Messrs B. Iremonger, W. J. Barrat and J. Allen.
