Thundei-clap Shakes House. An electrical Storm shortly before 1 a.m. today terminated with a phenomenally vivi'd flash of lighting and thunder-clap. It shook houses and wakened a numter of residents. . Heavy rain fell cluring the night, \yith a brief respite this morning before it set in again. Sunday School Union. Many mofe town and coUntry schools had applied for affiliation to the union during the year, said Mr. W. E. Archer, general secre'.tary of the Auckland Sunday School Union, in a report presented at the union's 84th annual meeting. The total niembership was now 360 schools, 2590 teachers, and 28,500 children. Fewer Rose Saies. The Levin R.S.A.'s general fund will benefit to the extent of £64 10s as the resuit of its Rose Day appeal, held on Tuesday. This is a slight decreas'e over last year's figures, when.£70 9s 3d was raised. The executive of the R.S.A. wishes to thank sincerely Mrs. N. M. Thomson and all those helpers who took part in the 'drive, and also the public for its support. Taupo Limit Bags. The opening day of the 'fishing season was remarkable for the nuniber 6f limit bags taken. The fish, though small, were in goo'd condition. Mr. Murray Armstrong, of Taupo, fishing between the buoy and Acacia Bay, landed the limit in two hours, as did Mr. , Freckleton at Waitahanui. It is j reported that an eight-pounder was taken in the Waitahanui ! River. i Fioneer Airman's Son. Twenty-one years after his famous faither, Mr. C. T. P. Ulm, flew to New Zealand in Sir Charles 'Kingsford-Smith's Southern Cross, Mr. John Ulm saw New Zealand from the air on Tuesday. He was k passenger in the Solent flyingboat Ararangi on her around-New Zealand flight. Mr. Ulm is on the staff of the Sydney Sun, contributing articles on aviation to that and other papers. Typewriters. Portable typewriters which reached New Zealand a few months ago from, the United Kingdom were landed at £10 9s 7d each to retail at '£23 each. This ' was stated in evidence in the Auckland Supreme Court when a num.be r of typewriters was exhibited. Thieves it was alleged, had asked £16 each for the machines and the deal had gone ithrough a third party, who had flxed the price at £18. Danger To School Pupils. Fifty-five schoolchildren in the Auckland Education Board's area were injured in road accidents during the second term. Twentyseven were injured while riding bicycles. At a meeting of the board yesterday, Mr. M. G. Lee pointed out the high accident rate among child cyclists. He suggested parents should be advised of the danger of allowing their children to ride bicycles in areas of high traffic density. Health Stamp Saies.
