An in- ; quiry has been opened by the stew- ! ards on this and other incidents.' • The Sydney Telegraph's corre- } spondent comments that Benvoio j was the uhlucky horse of the race and that he may have won had he escaped interference between the five and four furlongs. Benvolo finished very fast in third place, a length and a half and a long neck behind the leaders. He would have been second in a few more strides. A mile from home, continues the correspondent, he w;as travelling comfortably in sixth place, but when Comic Court fell back slightly Benvolo suddenly lost ground. Jockey Williams said that he lost more th'an a length and was thrown right out of his stride. He was well back into the straight, but made up four lengths in the last furlong. Writing in the Telegraph, Mr. J. O'Brien says that the stewards questioned eight jockeys concerning the roughly run cup and adjourned the inquiry until tomor- • row.
