550 Competitors For Games In Auckland
AUCKLAND," Oct. 31. * Excluding New Zealand 's own entries, wbich are expected to total about 200 indivlduals, more than- 350 athletes have been " entered from Commonwealth countries for the British Empire Games to be staged at Auckland from February 4 to 11 next. At the official closing of entries tosday only Hong Kong, Ceylon and Trinidad had failed to notify their entries and these are expected within a day or two. Australia nominated 167 competitors, Canada from 52 to 61, England 69 to 71, South Africa 44, Rhodesia 15, Scotland 13, Tiji foiu- with another seven expected, .Malaya eight, Jamaica six, Nigeria four and Wales tliree. New Zealand last week nominated 257 entries as distinct from the number of competitors. Australian, Canadian and New Zealand entries apart from individual competitors are required to be named on forms to be i'urnished to the organising committee before December 14 and three exempted countries are required to name their entries before January 7.
