Human Cost Of War Shown In Film
I The search of a Czech woman, I Mrs. Malik, whose husband and daughter were murdered during the war, for the son she was separated from when they were placed in different concentration camps is the basis of a film, "The Search," which. is to be screened at the Regent Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday next. It comes to Levin toy arrangement between the theatre management and Levin branch of the United Na'oions Association as a feature of United Nations Week. This very good picture was filmed in Germany for M.G.M. with the co-operation of the United States Army and the International Refugee Organisation. The film consists of alterna'le sequences from the lives of the mother and son until they are reunited. Because of its simplicity and lifelikeness, this picture succeeds admirably in saying some important things. Portraying the sufferings of the mother and child, two among millions, it says, and says emphatically, "This is the human cost of war!" Showing mile upon mile of ruined city blocks, it says, "This is the material cost of war!" Probing a child mind warped by suffering, it says, "Children were made for happiness!" And so it suggests a final urgent question, "Can the United Nations Organisation prevent war?"
