Jaycee President Fined For Promoting Lottery

AUCKLAND, Oct. 21. When members of the Auckland Junior Chamber of Commerce sold shilling tiekets for mystery parcels contaming articles ranging from a fiy swat to a silver fox fur they raised £1900 toward building a nurses' convalescent home. In the Police Court today Coiin Lloyd Don, indent agent, chairman of the committee, pleaded guilty to promoting a lottery. Police said business firms gave goods ranging in value from one shilling to £70. Thirty thousand shilling tiekets were sold entitling each purchaser to goods valued at one shilling or more. The committee was warned before proceeding. The Magistrate (Mr J. Moriing) observed that although the object was a very worthy one the law must be obeyed. He imposed a fine of £1.
