Extensive Damage Caused By Fire In Auckland

AUCKLAND, Oct. 21. A fire shortly before midnight extensively damaged the premises of Cooke and Co. Ltd., wine and-/ spirit merchants, Albert Street. The flames started in the rear of the building, swept to the upper storey, shattered dozens of beer bottles, and charred the staircase and walls. City firemen helped by machines from thre.e other stations attacked the outbrealr from Federal and Albert Streets simultaneously and the fire was concentrated in the rear of tlie building. A director of the firm (Mr. R. Johnston) could give no estimate of the damage. He said all the electricity was turned off at five 0 'clock last evening. Fire brigade officiala are still trying to determine the source of the outbreak.
