Gollen Good Watkins Hdcp. Prospect

from

WELLINGTON, Oct. 21. The chief feature event on the second day of the Wellington Racing Cjtpb-s^sgHng meetings at Trentham tomorrow will be the Wellington ^Guineas, which has drawn togethef the best three-year-olds in the country, including the crack northerner, Lord Moss, who will be a very warm favourite on both machines. L^Tge fields are carded, and if the weather does not again take su&den sickness, as happened last week, then a reversal of last , wee'k's form can be looked foi\ At present the track is in wonderful order with the fine sunshine of the week. * -Ruling favpurit.es for the thre.e main events are : — Welling- j tbn Guineas: Lord Moss. Watkins Handicap: Renown. Awatea Handicap : Flying Sovereign. .

The titbit race of the afternoon is expecced to be the Guineas in which Lord Moss, Golden Spa, Gold Script and His Nibs have all strong following. After his magnificent performances northerners cannot see Lord Moss being beaten. They certainly have good reason to place such high reliance on the Auckland colt who has an unbeaten record this season. However, Golden Spa is ready to test him to the full. He looks a picture of frtness since his Wanganui Guineas success, and if he does not allow the northerner to streak away to a good lead in the early stages of tomorrow's race I expect Golden Spa' to unwind a brilliant finish in the straight to snatch the laurels. Gold Script is definitely not out ,of it. His perforrhance last week in carrying 10 lb over weight-for-age into third place among the sprinters was no mean feat. I expect him to be a very dangerous contender. His Nibs looks the part and might prove a surprise packet. The Laird looks very well and ready to do his part. If recovered from her trouble last weekend and right back to her best Sweet Spray is just the type of filly to keep the colts right up to their best. Of the others Beaumaris is the best. "His splendid performance in finishing on briliiantly with his topweight into second in the Wainui Handicap afver being pocketed practically all the way, has made Demonic favourite for the Watkins Handicap. Langhams' good Wellington Handicap effort has also earne'd him second favouritism, while her splendid fourth in the same race has earned Renowned a big following. The improved going would greatly benefit Welcome Guest. He ran second to Renown in this event last year. If the going should become soft then Karhkeya wLl be very hard to beat, but if the present conditions prevail the southerner will not be a starter. Gollen looks particularly welf and will revel in the going. Because. he failed in the Coronation Handicap at Avondale and Mitchelson Cup at Auckland Gollen is not looked upon as a prospect tomorrow on account of these two failures. The going on both occasions was yiel'ding. With a likelv firm track tomorrow Gollen has a chance to prove his real quality and I expect a great race from him. Leyma is another who will appreciate firm going. Of the rest Liebestraum and Distinction read best. The excra furlong and better going will favour False Step in the Awatea Handicap and I expect her to be one of the hardest to beat, her most serious opposition being in Flying Sovereign, Faultina, Magical, Pierre, Personality and La Modelle. If Personality is right up to peak he should be a strong contender. Flying Sovereign's good second last week shows that she is back to her best and the seven furlongs will be more to her liking than last week. She is a warm favourite down here. Prospects for Trentham, Poverty Bay, Rotorua and Banks Peninsula are: —
