Otaki Institute Meets

There was the usual vecy satis-factoi-y attendance at the monthly meeting of the Otaki Women's Institute, held recently in the niiglican Hall. Mrs. J. Ros^ nresident) was in the chair and v^elcomed all, after which the ipeaker thanked the many who by cheir efforts ha-d made the arts and crafts show a success. Following routine business, a most interesting demonstration by Mrs. A. Hunter, showing members how to make wool mops, was very closely followed by those present. A vote of thap.ks to the demonstrator was moved by Mrs. G. M. Kirk, and Mrs. Hunter was the recipient of a small token of appreciation. Competition winners for the month were as follows: — Best flower: Mrs. G. M. Kirk 1, Mrs. H. T. Mould 2. Best shrub: Mrs. C. Parrant 1, Mrs. Mould 2. Christmas1 novelty: Mrs. H. Mathie 1, Mrs. Mould 2. Eggless gingerbread: Mrs. S. Brooks 1. Competitions for November will be besb flower, best shrub, open jam tai't (short pastry) ,'and a gift (costing no more than 2s) for a Christmas tree. Those not entering for the latter competition are asked to bring a gift. Hostesses for November will be Mesdames W. Clarkv L. Cooksley, R. Duncan, J. Duncan, A. Empson and C. Evans. TE HORO'S MEETING The Te Horo Women's Institute held its monthly meeting in the Te Horo hall recently, when members of the junior circle and numerous visitors were among those present. Mrs. W. Clark (president) exten-ded a welcome to members and friends. With °the disposal of routine business, Mrs. R. W. Evans, of Kimberley, gave a most interesting demonstration of basket making. n xarge assortment o'f baskets ana other work, made by Mrs. Evans from rushes, pine needles, rimu, and various native grasses and leaves, were displayed and £reatly impressed members with their beauty and utility. This denionSoration was very much appreciated an'd a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the demonstrator. A competition prize provided by Mrs. W. Clark was won by Miss Judith Spiers, while the monthly competitions resulted as follows: — Best flower: Mrs. A. Macdonald 1, Mrs. C. Sutton 2, Mrs. O. Shirnack 3. Bowl of polyanthus: Mrs. Sutton 1, Mrs. Shirnack 2, Mrs. Macdonald 3. Tray cloth: Mrs. D. B. Grant 1, Mrs. Sutton 2. The serving of afternoon tea concluded the meeting.
