Dutch Soldiers As Farming Immigrants
WELLINGTON, Oct. 20. The first 50 of 100 Dutcli ex-serviee-im-n who are being accepted as immijnants to work on New Zealand farms, will arrive in New Zealand early next laontli. The secqn d 50 is expected about ten days later. Deinoliilised in the Netherlands East Tiidies the men will coiue in aireraft aujiplied by the Netherlands Government, which will mahe two trips. On arrival the men will be accommodated :n t L* Labour Department's camp at A a'nuraka, Auckland, for a few days Vvhile furmalities connected with their airiva! are completed. They are being elliicafed by the Department in consultation with local secretaries of Federate ! Farmers, to farmers who applied f'>r thein in response to a circular sent ■-at by Federated Farmers. The appli'■ati«ms have been greater than the number of workers ? vailable. Ihe Dutch will not be provided with ^-ehooling as were the displaced persons trom Europe. Although not many of Oh-hi speak fluent English, most of tliiMu have a working knowledge of the Jar^uage. The average age of the draft is 23 or 24 years. Most of them, part icularlv the older men, worked on iarins before they entered the forces.
