^ _ Received Friday, 9.20 a.m. LONDON, October 20. The Prime Minister, Mr, Attlee, was received m audience by the King at Buckingham Palace .this.afternoon. It is understood that Mr. Attlee reported on the Government's plan for national economies. Later it was announced that Mr. Attlee will broadcast on the coming economic cuts on Monday night.
The Lord President of the Council, Mr. Herbert Morrison, said in the House of Commons today that next Wednesday and Thursday the House would have an opportunity to debate the statement to be made on Monday by Mr. Attlee. The de- ( bate would take place on a Gov- j ernment motion. J Events moved fast towards austerity zero hour, which eVeryone expected to usher in the iciest era of hard living in Britain's history, says Reuter's political correspondent. Mr. Attlee reported to the King on the slashing postdevaluation economies which he will announce to Parliament and the nation on Monday. Mr. Attlee's visit to the King was taken to mean that Cabinet had resolved any remaining difficulties and disagreements over the plan, and was ready to give it final shape at tomorrow's special meetings. Monday's official announcement will be the test not onlv of the discipline of 50,000,000 Britons, but of the Government's prestige with its 392 Parliamentary followers.
