Levin Bowlers' Contest. The Takaro Cup, held by the Levin Bowling Club, will be competed for on Saturday when the Manawatu club visits Levin tc play its challenge match. The local club will be represented by F. H. Burnham, H. Hughes, A. J. Meads and R. H. Henderson (s) . Entries for the Levin club's competitions close on October 25. Projects Worth £100,000. Over 200 subsidised catchment projects • worth approximately £100,000, the work of the Manawatu Catchment Board since its formation in 1945, will be illustrated in a special exhibit at the Royal Show at Palmerston North in November. The organiser of the exhibit, Mr. F. E. Suckling, said that a map had been prepared in which the location of the subsidy works was pin-pointed, while aerial photographs would also be available for inspection. Nurses' Training Costs. The Auckland Hospital Board pays £28,220 a year to train general nurses in its employ, and this sum does* not include the cost of practical training in wards and departments. To train a nurse till she has passed the State final examination costs £376. The sum of £2612 is spent yearly on training nurse aids, the cost for a nurse completing the course being £163 5s. Training maternity nurses costs £1134, or £56 ls a nurse completing the course. Tipping. 1 How much can a steward at a club e&rn in tips in an hour? Thirty-eight members of Dunedin's famed St. Kilda Band and six supporters will fill a Skymaster airliner when they leave Auckland for Sydney on Friday. The band will compete at the Australianbands' contest at Ballarat betweem October 24 and 29. The band will arrive back in Auckland on November 5. The St. Kilda Band this year won the New Zealand A grade championship for the 11th time. The band also this year won two firsts and a second at other band contests. Its solo players won five firsts, four seconds, and two thirds. Heavy Campaigning. The Labour canaidate for Hobson, Mr. W. E. Lane, will address 53 meetings in five weeks in the general election campaign, toeginning on Monday and observing a six-day week schedule, with up to four meetings daily. He has 28 evening engagements, 20 afternoon and five morning. Three years years ago the Labour candidate for the electorate, which is one of the largest in the Nprth Island, held 92 meetings and the successful /• Nationalist candidate 60. The sitting member for Northern Maori, Mr. Paikea, squeezed 71 meetings into 22 days of non-stop campaigning. '
