Received Thursday, 11 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 19. The British Foreign Secretary, Mr. Ernest Bevin told the House of. Commons today that Japan would pay no further reparations while the present United States admlnistration pf Japan continued in control. "This does not necessarily hiean that Japan will make no further reparations payments at all. since the fihal decisions on this .subject will eventually have- to be enibodied in the terms of the general peace settlement, but it would be misleading to hold out any hope that Japan would, however,' be able •to pay any further substantial reparations and at the same time pay her way in the world," said Mr. Bevin. Asked if Britain would not demand further reparations, Mr. Bevin said: "I would not say that. There is an adverse balance in .Japan and the American Government is not willing for reparations to cpntinue at this moment, and in "that I think they have a good case."
