Aden's Performance Was Outstanding
One of the most outstanding performances at Trentham on Saturday was that of Aden in winning the weiiesiey Stakes. The Pherozshah colt was a long way back early in tne race ana stun naa consiaeraoie ground to make up in the staight. The manner in . which he eliminated the opposition was so striking that he must be rated as the best two-year-old seen in this end oi' the island this season. The racing year is young yet and there is ample time for Aden to be deposed, but for the .time being he ranks a topliner. Pastel and Skaressa, who rau second and third, are smart lillies, and, Like Aden, they are by Phevozshah, who received a great advertuscment from the race. They are iikeiy to win at any time. Brutus and Gayle are "Uteis who should not be iong olf tne the winning list. Dixie's win in the Desert Gold Stakes was cleareut and impressive. She was more torward than Super Snipe* whom she outstayed, but is good and is likely to rate as one of the best of the three-year-old filiies when the season ends. ■ Super Snipe should improve more than Dixie. She had not had as much racing when they met on Saturday and should be a lot liarder to beat a little later. Sly Gold's Good Race. Woodville went close to bringing ofl oue of the greatest surprises known at Trentham when Sly Gold beat all but Ivartikeya in the Wellington Handicap. Sly Gold was at odds of round about a century and with less than a furlong to go'she looked the probablc winner till Ivartikeya bowled along or the outer and beat her.without mucii trouble. Sly Gold, who is trained bj S. McNaughton, Woodville, for Mrs J Larsen, was one of the pacemakers aiJ the way, so lier second was a good performance.
