' Received Wednesday, 10 a.m HONG &ONG, Oct. 18. First officiai contact between the British authorities and Chinese Communists on the Hong Kong ffontier occurred today in the border town of Shataukok. It took place between Inspector Robert Oliver and 49 uniformed Communists, who arrived ip Shataukok this morning. Inspector Oliver had a taik with the Communist commander on a formal but friendly basis, and showed him the ihternational boundary line running down the middle of the main street. The Communists were armed with rifles and piStols, apparently 1 of Japanese manufacture. Among them was a pistol-carrying woman. Chinese from both sides of the frontier gathered to greet the soldiers. Elsewhere the border was quiet. j President Fixes Blame. i Nationalist China's Acting Preisident, Mr. Li Tsung-jen, today blamed the Government's failure to carry out certain political re- j forms for the continued expansion of the Communist influence. These reforms could still, however, be immediately carried out; Speaking in Chungking, Mr. Li i Tsung-jen accused the Communists.! of designing to "sell" China to the j . Russians. He claimed that there j was still,. a most potential and ex- i panding . anti-Communist force among' the Chinese patriots. _Ht pointed out that the Nationalist^ ] still controlled far greater _ terri- | . tory than the area under their con- j trol during the last stages of ■ the war against Japan.
