Local & General
Wind Destroys Blossoms. It is very unfortunate. that the heavy wind over -the , weekend damaged the cherry blossoms and other flowering shrubs, in the Plimmer Terrace Gardens. The recent fine display of blossoms caused much comment from citizens as well as the travelling public. Many local gardens also suifered from the wind. Fresh In River. Heavy rain which fell towards the en'd of last week caused the Manawatu River to rise slightly and become very dirty. White-. baiting under tihese conditions ia impossihle, and many who paid visits to 'the river with nets over the weekend returned home with-i out attempting to fish. Summer Sport. Although the weather over the weekend did not favour summer sport many enthusiasts gathered on the bowling green and the tennis court for their first games of the season. Keen interest is being taken in getting the sum-» mer clubs established and it is hoped that this interest remains throughout the summer and. that these clubs do not suffer the same depression that threatened to send many of the winter cluibs. into recess. Wandering Stock. Wandering stock on the highway is always a danger to those using the roads, especially at night. Although the borough streets have been free from this menace for most of the time, the main highways outside the borough have not been so fortunate and complaints have been' r'eceived from a number of motorists and cyclists during the past few days. Sheep with lamhs and milking cows are the biggest offenders, but horses and pigs also have their turn on the long acre.
