No Scope For More Imports, Says Mr. Nash
WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. Tlie absence of any scope for any general extension of the issue of impon licences was emphasised by the Minis ter of Finance, Mr Nash, in announcmg the import iiceiising scheduie for 1950 Other points he stressed were. — It was more than ever necessary t> depend on locally-made goods. • Basic aliocations would not be pro vided for goods from hard eurrenc\ areas. Half-yearly iicencfes have been introduced for imports from the United States and Canada. Token imports from the United King dom would be continued with soine ad ditiOns. Mr Nash said licences would cover the period of January 1 to De cember 31, 1950, and would be availabk- * for imports up to February 28, 1951. The general procedure for the issue of licences would be similar to that ad opted for the L949 period, the Ministe1 said. Basic aliocations had been pro vided wherever this had been found practicable. With a view to elimmatiug the necessity to apply for additionai licences the allocation had, in mosi cases, been related to licences granted for imports in 1949.
