| NEW PLYMOUTH, Oet. 16. High level chalet accommodation on Mt. Ruapeliu, near the terminus of P.ruce Tload, is envisaged by the Tongariro National Park Board. A meeting of the board at Ihe Chateau Tongariro on Saturdav, strongly reeommended the earlv erection of sueh a building for which it was considered there was a great deinand. Mr. N. M. Thomson, of Levin, said the Chateau did not provide for the requireinents of everyone and the service he suggested, eomprising catering arrangernents on the cafeteria system and charges within the means of everyone, would not compete with the Chateau. The Minister of Lands, Mr. Skinner, said the Alinister of Tnternal Atfairs, Afr. Pai-rv, was very mueli in favour cf the type of aeeonnnodation proposed but it was a matter of trving to catch up on the honjsing positiou generally. "We want to see the gronnds used by the ordinary working man," added Mr. Skinner. "We want to seh the gronnds used more than by those who stay at the Chateau." ATr. Thomson said he was appalled at the suggestion that the proposed building should be delaved until other building work was completed for at that rate the project would never get anywhere. ATr. Skinner: We do not intend to wait until everytliing else is done. The Tourist and Health Resorts Departments will install a chair lift on the slopes of Mt. Kuapehu in the near future. This announcement was made to the board bv the assistant general manager of the Department, Mr. ,T. Hous'ton. Ski tows had proved most popular, lie said.
