Told Police He Had Killed Woman

AUCKLAND, Oet. 13. A maii with bloodstained hands who called at the Ponsonby police station at 1.30 a.m. on October 7 and announced he had "just killed a woman in Point Erin Parlc, ' ' heai'd her give evidence against him in the Police Court today. He was Lewis Henry Isaacs, aged 41, a stoiiemason, charged before JNlessrs 11. Cooper and G. P. Forsyth J.P.'s witli assaulting Eeta Allen so as to cause her actual bodily liarm. Senior-Detective J. B. Finlay prosecuted. Accused was not represented by counsel. Constable E. D. Morris said he was on duty when Isaae called at the Ponsonby police station. His hands, sleeves and shirt were covered with biood. ' ' Accus ed told me he' had just kiiled a woman in Point Erin Parlc and said he wanteu to get hold of detectives," said tht constable. "I telephoned the Central police station and while waiting for the police car, accused talked. He said: "I've done her in. 1 strangled her. She can't put it over a serviceman. I don'i care if they hang me or put me against a wall and shoot me. She put it .across her own soidier boy?" Keta Allen said she was separated from her husband. She had lcnown Isaacs for about six months. She work ed as a baker's labourer at a pie fac tory at Freeman's Bay. They met out side the Suffollt Hotel about 6.45 p.m. on October 6 and walked to Victoria Bark together. They decided to get some beer so went to a house in Union Street where Isaacs got four botties. She said: "We returned to the parlc where the beer was consumed. Isaacs drank most of it. He tlien went to an hotel and liought four more bottles of beer and a bottle of wine. Then we went in a taxi to Point Erin Parlc about. 9.45 p.m. and sat down ampng the trees. Most of the wine and beer was consumed by the two of us." Mrs Allen said they were both still in the parlc at 12.30 a.m. "He then grabbed me by the throat and said he was going to kill me and throw me into Lhe harbour, " witness said. "He trieu to cholce the life out of me. I was htt in the head by a bottle and lost consciousness." Dr. J. Z. Coombes, who examuied Mrs Allen when she was taken to the casualty department on October 7, said she was mildly shoelced and ratlier tal ica tive. Tliere was drying bJood on her face, neclc and hands and she had a Hmall but deep laceration in her nedc. Marks on the neclc could have been caused by the pressuer of hands. The laceration was consistent with a cut from a broken bottle. Accused pieaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
