WELLINGTON, Oet. 13. Xnsisteuce on a rigid adherence to correct working hours on the waterfront, is intended from Monday next by the employers. Captain M, T. Holm, seeretary of the New Zeaiand Waterside Employers' Association, said tonight that notice had been, given to the Waterside Workers' Union - that t'rom Monday any worker not observing correct hours of work would be dismissed. A similar warning in June last had apparently not beeii sufficient, said Captain Holm. The employers required that the raen should be*on the job during the prescribed hours qf work for which they are paid. Spelling on the waterf ront — time off fbr morning and afternoon tea — is permitted fo.r half an hour mornings and afternoons between stated hours and with the provision that during these tffmes a certain proportion of the men must be on the job. Abuses of the spelling system were stated in the annual report of the Waterfront Industry Commission to be worse at Auckland, Wellington and Lyttelton.
