Levin Club Has Pavilion Opening
The unfavourable vyeather on Saturday did not cause the postponement of the Levin Bowling Club's official open|ng ceremony, but activities were of necessity confined to the pavilion. There was quite a good attendance of bowlers, Levin Central, R.S.A. and Foxton clubs being represented. Welcoming the visitors and members, the presideijt, Mr. A. J. Meads, thanked those members of the club who ha'd been so helpful in the preparation of the green and its surroundings for the season's play. He apologised for the unavoidable . absence. of the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin. ' - Following brief but humorous remarks, the "patron, Dr. L. J. Hunter, declared the. green open for play. Tribute to the service whiehMr. H. A. Robertson had rehdered the club as lionorary auditor from: 1931 until his retifement this year was paid by the yice-president, Mr. D. P. Todd. Oh behadf qf members, he asked Mr. Robertson to accept a fountain pen in recognition of his work. Mr. Robertson suitably replied. ' 1 • On behalf of the Central Club, Mr. W. Sharpe handed to Mr. Meads the Wall Shield, for competition among coltsj which was won by Levin last year. He expressed the hope that there would be an increase this season in the number of cliallenges for the tropfiy. No play was possible but the "dispensing of afternoon tea provided an opportunity for social converse which occupied the time pleasantly.
