WELLINGTON, Oct. .12. The reas.ons for the retention of cream and butter rationing were given by the Minister of Industries and Com merce, Mr. Nordmeyer, in &n interview today. The effect of the removal of rationing upon the butter available to the people in the United Kingdom, was given as the dominant reason. Notwithstanding the fact that in some areas cream rationing is not as strictly observed as should be, the Government is satisfied from a recent' survey that the maintenance of cream rationing has achieved the objeet of withholding from eonsumption in New Zealand, butterfat which is otherwise made available to the people of the United Kingdom. It was not consid ered that The rationing "of cream was any real hardship. The saving effected through its continuance was important in ensuring greater supplies of butter for the United Kingdom. The new butter ration, together with the allowance for hotels and other priority users, would be approximately 32.51bs. a head of the population. Butter and cream rationing would be eontinued for a further period until it was obvious that the butter and edible fats position in the United Kingdom had so hnproved as to make a continuance of rationing in New Zealand no longer necessary.
