The survevs had been completed and plans of runway extensions were sufficiently advanced to allow construction work to be put in hand within the nexr fortnight on the 1 000 foet extenaion of j the northeast-sonthwcst rnnway at Harewood, said the Alinister in charge of civil aviation, Mr. .Jones, in a statement tonight. The Minister said inquiries were being made for contractors with plant to place on the runway extenaion work. In addition to the extension of the northeast-south west runway, contracts were being prepared for the shaping, metalling, grading and consolidating or the runway prior to it being given a bitumenous surface. The Minister hoped the preparation for sealing would be completed this summer. Operations woulo next be put in hand on the northwes'i-sout heast runway and subsidiary areas which would also bt ready for bitumenous paving after the winter months. Further develojunent of the aerodroine to bring it to the dimensions required for international air services, would follow as the final stage of the construction.
