Desperate Plight Of Many Displaced Persons
WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. • Relatives of displaced persons wiio recently arrived in New Zealand will be in a deBperate plight if steps are not taken to help them before the Interaational Refugee Organisation ends its vvork in June next year. This was stated today at a meeting of the ^pecial committee of the New Zealand tnter-Church Council on Public Afdairs., The committee decided to take che question up with the Customs Departme'nt and seek guarantees of accommodation for the people concerned should they be allowed to enter the country. The secretary of the Council and of the special committee (Mr. C. Gibson) said the Customs Department was being asked to provide the nam.es of Eurojean settlers who wished to have relatives brought out to New Zealand so that further action could be taken.
