WARRINGTON, Oct. 5. Dr. A. J. Liebniau, a ehemist employed by a distilling iinn, said todav that the'taste buds of a ' | diseriminating " drinker were a more aecurate measure of good whisky than any scientific laboratory device. He made the Btatement at Treasury Department hearings on a proposed new regulation to permit the ageing of whisky in used barrels provided the fact is made known o]i the label of the bottle. Dr. Liebman seotfed at claims of Govern ment chemists that laboratory tests have justified the proposed regulation. He said the human sense of smell and taste were so refined that they went far beyond any possible cheaiieal test in dctermining .whisky quality. Millard Oox, agent for 24 distillers, also argued that whisky could not "acquire dignitv of age" in used barrels.
