Ships in Distress
Received Tuesday, 8.20 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 4. The Sweclish steamer Mira, 1500 tons, has radioed for ripmediate assistance after striking the wreck of the German battle eruiser Gneisenaq near "the Gedser lightship at the southern 'tip of the Danish island of Falster. Two of the crew are reported in.inredA Greenland administration authority announced that distress signals had been picked up froni the Ranisb 1S0.D ton motorship Disko in j^rrctic yy^tqr's off Greenland, The Disko had a crew of 31 and about 50 passengers, including scientists returning to Copephageq University after work ip Greenland. A fire Of undetermiped origin swept the 1350-ton "Norwegian steamer Rolycarp at Puerto Gabello totally destroying ihe vessel at tts anehorage. The ship 's entire. crew was aboard whep the blaze was diseovered, but all os.caped uninjured.
