Realistic Picture Admired By Mr. Fraser
WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, eoxifessed when . he opened the art exhibition by 'Sam Cairncross today, that when he saw the pieture ' ' On the •Hooks," the painter's most controversial canvas to date, it was so realistic he felt he could c-arry it away. "On the Hooks," a slaughterhou.se impression, is under ofier to the trustees of the National Gallery. Mr Fraser sartT that while a sheep carcase did not appeal to him particularly as a subject, no one conld gainsay the Cairncross realistic app'roach. He regretted that while on the East Coast reeently, Cairncross had not painted George Nepia to whom he referred as an international figure in football and "just as much an artist on the field" ns Cairncross ,^was with his palette.
