Mayor Refutes Allegations Of Ratepayers' Body
If the Levin Ratepayers' Association had kept pace with the reports published from time to time it would have known that a material advancement had been made with the sewerage scheme, :saicL,'the Mayor, Mr. H. B, Burdekin, at last night's meeting of the Levin Borough Council. He was commenting on a Press report of a meeting of the association at which the opinion had been expressed that although much had been heard of a sewerage scheme two years ago, there had been little since. The fown was growing rapidly, the report had ad'ded, but. its administrators were not keeping pace with it. In the interest of the ratepayers he would like to state that the position was not as mdicated in the report, said Mr. Burdekin. If the association members had taken the trouble to look in the sanitation depot they would have seep some £5000 worth of pipes stored there for the sewerage scheme. There were other matters contained in the report which were equally ill-informed and mischievous, the Mayor added. "I know that there has been a lot of progress ma'de," cornmented Cr. A. W. Parton. ."I also know that there has been much of it which has had to be taken in committee, but I think short statements could have been made after we came out of committee." He added that he felt the association had not tried to get information. "They will soon fade into disrepute if they make statements like this," commented Mr. Burdekin.
