Brawling Mars Rugby League Game

AUCKLAND, Oct. 2. In a game marred by much brawling and fighting, the Australian Rugby League touring team defeated Auckland by 36 points to 18 at Carlaw Park. There were outbreaks of fighting in the first half but serious trouble did not develop until about ten minutes after the interval. Disgraceful scenes then occurred. Two players chased each other nearly 20' yards aeross tlie ground, striking blows. Two others were knocked out simultaneously and there were outbreaks of hooting , from the crowd. Robertson had to leave the field for a few minutes with a shoulder injury and there was great applause when he returned. Kelly, meanwhile, had been unable to maintain firm control and nearly every ruck was marked by punching or brawling. After a time the Auckland defence deteriorated and Australia was abJe to make use of the superior speed of its backs. The last ten minutes of the game were marked by nothing more unusual than the effortless penetration of the Auckland defence by the Australians and five quick tries were scored.
