Boy Scouts Granted Permit For New Hall

Aavice has been received by the Levin Boy Scout Committee that permission has been granted by the- Building Controller for the erection of their long-awaited new hall. The hall will be sited in Playford Park aird will be so; constructed to allow for a speciall'y built range for the Levin Miriiature Rifle Club. The two foodies combined forces in their efforts to secure a permit. The chairman of the committee, Mr. W. L. Travers, said yesterday that they were all overjoyed at the news and intended to proceed shortly with the programme drawn up some time ago. The first move would be to launch a widespread campaign for trees from which suitable building timber could be secured. Farmers particularly could help considerably in this regard. Arrangements would be made by the scouts for the transport of such trees to the mill. The site for the proposed hall ha$ not yet been decided upon by the Levin Borough Council's Playford Park Domain Bbard, but

it would. not be long before the final layout of the park would be decided upon, said- the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, yesterday. He added that he was very pleased to learn . that a permit had been granted for the building. The people of Levin and district will also share the scouts' pleasure at the prospect of having a home of their own., and will doubtless get behind any scheme to hasten its erection. Scouts play a major - part in any community an'd the growth of the movement is to be desired. The miniature rifle club is another body which, from a sporting and defence viewpoint, is an asset to any town. Citizens can ohtain a personal interest in the new clubhouse by" donating small ariicles which will be required in its erection, or articles of furniture, doors, windows, nails and countless other items down to a lock set. Already a citizen has donated two taps and a hand basin. The scouts themselves -will not be standing still, but will be carrying out their own schemes for earning money in traditional style.
