LONDON, September 29. This year's display at Earl's Court Motor Show with 530 exhibitors, is the largest in the 45 years of the exhibition's history. Foreign representation, particularly American, is much stronger than last year. There are no radical departures in design but a great deal of refinement and improvement in detail. Prices, however, are still high and although" Daimlers, at the head of the price scale, announced some reductions and there are some small cuts in the middle range, generally speaking the price list is outside the reach of the average British purchaser today. Partly for this reason and partly because of the need for increased dollar Bales, the emphasis of the show is very much upon export with particular attention paid to hard Currency markets. Some British small car designs show a definite revolt against prevailing American trends and return to the straight line in preference to the curve. One noticeable development is a much wider range of paint shades and increased luxury in interior furnishings. Sixteen leading American makes are exhibited although they are not on sale in Britain. The Italian Fiat Company is exhibiting a number of small models as a challenge to British small car designers.
