Chimney Fire. The Levin Volunteer Fire Brigade received a call to a chimney fire in a house in Queen Street West at 7.30 p.m. last night. The fire was extinguished by the use of chemicals. Sections Sell Readily. Of the 46 sections in the Playford Park subdivision placed on the market recently, only 12 are left unsold and it is anticipated that these will not be long in the land agents' hands, as there is keen deman-d throughout the district for. building sites. Health Stamp Campaign. Full support for the national health stamp campaign is again sought from the people of Levin and district, It is hoped that \his year's effort will surmount all those of past years. The campaign will open on Monday next and a canvass will be made of the business area "by members of the : Levin Junior Chamber of Com- ! merce. ; Frost Cuts Potatoes. ! Though the weather was cloudy [ and cold up to midnight last j night, a fairly severe frost was ex- ! perienced in the early hours of I this morning aird was later followed by showers of rain. Nevertheless, a large number of crops of early potatoes suffered, an unfortunate happening in. view of the fact that this commodity is in short. supply. A frost is again forecast for tonight. Play Centre Hours. A trial may be made \yith keeping the Levin Play Centre open until 5 p.m. on Fridays instead of , 4.30 p.m., as at present. At the annual mee.ing of the centre on Wednesday this suggestion was recommended to the incoming committee. It was felt that this would be of further assistance to mothers, as it would then be possible for their husbands to call for children on their way home from their employment. The supervisor, Miss E. Atack, indicated that she would be willing to stay on for the extra time. Public Trust Business. Estates to the value of £024,193 were aecep.ed for administration by the Public Trustee durine: the month of August. New business for the five months ended August 31 was £3,237,229. Grants of administration made by the Court in favour of the Public Trustee numbered 177 for the month. During the month 670 new wills appointing the Public Trustee executor were prepared on behalf of testators and lodged for safe custo-dy and 693 existing wills were revised to provide for changes desired by teslators. The total number of wills .now held in the Public Trust Office on behalf of livmg persons is 145,136. Recorded Sermon At Cashmere. A recorded sermon by the Bishop of Melanesia (Rt. Rev. S. G. Caulton) was given at St. Augustine's Church, Cashmere, on Sunday evening. The event is believed to be unique in New Zealand. On the suggestion of the vicar of St. Augustine's (Rev. David Thorpe) the Bishop recorded a message for the congregation of St. Augustine's on a sound tape recording machine belonging to one of the parishioners, Mr. J. A. White. The Primate of New, Zealand JArchbishop Wesi-Wat-son) introduced the Bishop, whose message was addressed soleiy to the congregation at St. Augustine's, A recording of the singing of a missionary hymn at the morning service was played as an introduction to the sermon at the evening service, and inany of those who attended fcoih servioes did not realise that the sihging was their own.
