Tasman Beach Institute Meets
The September meeting of the Tasman Beach Institute was held recently, when Mrs. J. H. McConville occupied the chair. Birthday* greetings were offered to Mrs.' A. Davidson, and the attention of rhembers was drawn to an alteration in the date of the institute's birthday celebration, which will now be hel'd on November 15. Invitations were received to the Waikanae institute's birthday and to the Otaki institute's combined flower and arts and crafts show. Several members expressed their willingness to help with the stall to be cohducted at the State School's gala day. Mesdames P. Evans and McConville were appointed to represent the branch a« the council meeting to be he.d in Levin in October. Following the dispensing of a tasty afternoon tea by Mesdames L. Kirker and D. McCready, Mrs. Gourley, of Paraparaumu, demonstrated pewter work. A detajled explanation was given and the demonstrator kindiy offered to help members should they wish to indulge in this interesting pastime. Mrs. McConville, in thanking Mrs. Gourley, asked her to accept flowers and a small gifb in appreciation of her helpful effort. Mrs. Rupert Knight next delighted with vocal solos, with Mrs. H. Tews assisting as accompaniste. Shoulder sprays were presented to these two la'dies. A novelty item was presented, this being a dancing duo by Misses Isabel and Lynnette Willis. This number brought *forth much acclamation, a tribute to the ability of the two young dancers. Dainty little poisies of sweets were presented to them, and a shoulder spray to their accompaniste, Mrs. F. Inglis. The sprays and posies were the work of Nfrs. R. Duncan,
