(By
All the Levin Golf Club s competitions have now been finalised with vhe exception of the championships and the Nicholson Cup competition and chief interest noW centresf onl these. On Saturday J. A. C. King beat H. D. Richards in the semi-final of the D.C.L. Cup competition and went on the following day to win the final from A. F. Landers. S. C. Franklin and B. J. Eagar beat J. Corbishley and A. The stableford bogey match piayed on Saturday brought another suecesS for Brian Antcliff. Great Task Ahead. W. G. Clark has defeated J. Sams to emerge as the other finalist in the senior championship ' op'posite B. J. Eagar. In glancing back over these 1a st few lines it is remarkable to see how frequently the name Eagar appears in the money. This final should be a great test, with Brian bringing youth, keenness and a good eye to battle against W.G.'s cool, calculated game backed by 35 years of shot making. The finalists in the other championship grades are: — Intermediate: D. Tomlinson and J. Corbishley. Junior: T. Ecclesfield and R. A. Jones. Nicholson Cup. The fourth and final round of the Nicholson Cup is 'to be contested next Saturday. This is the competition in which four rounds of stroke play are recorded, the best three to count. Those who could have a chance are: — With three cards in: T. J. Coutie 74 — 69 — 74 — 217, F. Carrington 72—74—75—221, A. H. Bennett 76 — 78 — 71 — 225, J. Tomlinson 77 — 76—72—225. With two cards in: G. Barclay 72—68—140, M. C. Wilson 76—66— 142, F. Baumber 79 — 68 — 147, D. Tomlinson 69 — 78 — 147, W. L. Travers 77 — 71 — 148, D. J. Sweetzer 77—72—149. If the present leader does not better 74 next Saturday to improve his 217, those wi'ch the best - chances are Barclay, who needs a 76 to win, Wilson a 74 and Carrington a 71, with Tomlinson, Baumber and Bennett each requiring a 69. On the face of this George Barclay must be taken as the favourite and in racing parlance will have to fall over lO lose. Last weekend a team of 12 players visited the Boulcott club. The hosts were too' good for the Levin players, but a great day's sport resuLed and everyone enjoyed the visit to this most hospitabie club. Forthcoming Fixtures.
