Popular Church Worker Farewelled

Following the afternoon service at the Shannon Methodist Church on Sunday, friends and members of the ladies' guild gathered at an afternoon tea arranged as a farewell function, to Mrs. E. Barber, Snr., who, after many years' residence in Shannon, is shortly leaving to make her home in Palmerston North. Speaking on behalf of those present, Rev. Mr. Ashworth made mention of the long arid faithful service given in the interests of the church by Mrs. Barber and also by members of her family. He said that all would regret her departure but would join in wishing her many very happy years . in her new home at Palmerston North. Mr. Ashworth then asked the guest of honour to accept a wall mirror as a token of esteem from her many friends of the church. Other speakers endorsed Mr. Ashworth's remarks and mention was made of Mrs. ' Barber's daughter, who is employed in Wellington but who comes home at the weekends, and in the past has been a tower of steength to the church. The loss of her services will- also be felt as she will be joining her mother at Palmerston North. In her brief but fitting reply, Mrs. Barber extended thanks, to the guild for the very .pleasant afternoon and for the gift whicb would be a prominent feature in her new home. She concluded by Wishing the church every success in the future.
