Rise In Hospital Occupied Bed Average
■ The daily average number of oceu« pied beds at the Palmerston North Public Hospital has shown an inerease Jrom 840.9 for July to 346.1 for August. This inerease is accounted for by the increased number of admissions (385 last month as against 362 in July) and the decreased number of discharges (429 last month as against 470 for July). The number of patiepts remaining in hospital at the end ,of August was 364, an inerease of 38 over the figure for July which was 326. This was reported to the monthly meetiug of the Palmerston North Hos-' pital Board yesterday b'y the aetingmedical superintendent, Dr. J. D. Willis. ' ' The total number of patients ou the waiting list also remaius high," Dr. Willis said, ' ' the present figure being 285 and, in additxon, there are 17 patients on the waiting list for admission to Awapuni Hospital, eight inpatients and nine outpatients. "The only notifiable diseases admitted during last month were five eases of scarlet fever, one dysentery and one poliomyelitis. "The number of births oeeurring in the Palmerston North Maternity Home during August showed an inerease over the figure for July, from 52 to 63 and the number of births at Eostrata rose from 23 to 25. The number of births during the mouth at Feilding increased by oue, 15 to 16, and those at Foxton and Otaki both decreased by two."
