Thirteen Passengers In Overturned Bus
NEW PLYMOUTII, Sept. 26. Thrown out of control on a steep grade leading from Chateau Tongariro, a well-filled public passenger transport bus crashed off Bruce Road late on Friday niglit and came to rest upside down. Although bruised and cut by Ilying glass, none of the 13 passengers was seriously hurt, but Ihe driver, Mr. R. E. R. Boyles, was badly cut on tho arm and leg. The accident oceurred at about 11 p.m. when the bus, ownod by Newman Bros., was a mHe from ihe Chateau and travelling towards National Park railwaj" station to connect with the north-bound express. Rushing back to the Chateau, one of tho passengers, Mr. ,T. Bragg.s, of Auckland, informed the stalf of tho accident and within a fow minutes motor-c.ars and buses conveving a doctor and helpers were spee(ling to tho scene. Tho officor in charge of the National Park railway station was advised and he arranged to dela.v the express train. All bilt two of the 13 passengerfs elected to coutinue their journey, and after a short hold-up they were transported to the station bv another bus. Tlie express was delayed for only 15 minutes.
